Graduated From: Gary
Current Employer: Kyle, Texas Police Department

As a police officer for the city of Kyle, Texas, Job Corps graduate Dago continues to give back to his community as he advocates for the prevention of violence, aggression and bullying. A 2006 graduate of the Gary Job Corps Center, Dago began his Job Corps career on the advice of his mother.

“I was stuck sitting in my family’s tiny doublewide,” Dago said. “I was miserable and had no idea what I was going to do. Eventually a friend of my mom’s told her about the Gary center and Job Corps.”

It wasn’t long before Dago was enrolled at Gary Job Corps Center in San Marcos, Texas, working toward a career in law enforcement in the Corrections and Security training area. While at Gary, Dago had the opportunity to learn from experienced corrections professionals gaining valuable field experience with security teams.

“In Job Corps, you can accomplish anything you want, if you’re willing to work. It gave me the perfect path to follow into law enforcement,” Dago said. “Strive hard to reach your goals and make Job Corps what you want it to be.”

Because of the real-world experience he gained through Job Corps, Dago had a job waiting for him as a guard with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after graduation. Now serving as a background investigator and sergeant for the Kyle Police Department, Dago influences others to make education a priority and to take a stand against violence.

It is clear that his time at Job Corps made an impact on his life.
